October and November Updates...

It had taken  me a little while to remember to get back on here and update! We have a had a busy few months! We have managed to keep homeschooling our priority and I’ve been thrilled about that! Anybody who home schools will know what I am talking about, sometimes life just takes over and schooling takes the back burner. It’s happened to us multiple times in the past and I’m excited that this year we have managed to keep a good balance!

Let’s start with October... My hubby works from home for a company out of state and he has to go there about twice a year and we went along this time. We stayed at the hotel , took Jariah to work in the morning and went for walks until 9 am, we would then go to the library to get our school work done. Other then the fact that we had to be very quiet it was a fairly productive week! We squeezed in a field trip with friends in the area to a nature preserve and spent our afternoons at the park. It was a fun change to the routine. The kids always love going with daddy because it means lots of eating out and different adventures in the evenings.

At the end of October, we had our scheduled week long break and we decided to do something fun with the kids. We had never been to Amish Country and kept hearing nice things about it. I wasn’t planning on counting any of it at « school » but we leaned so much, that I did, haha! We went to a neat farm where the kids got to feed so many different animals by hand, we also went to a cheese factory, and we also went to a farm where we visited an Amish home and learned all about their lifestyle. I’m pretty certain this was as educational for Jariah and I as it was for the kids!

Let’s skip to November, my mom and grandma came to spend a month with us! It was lovely to have them here, but again a bit of challenge when it comes to homeschooling. I was determined to no let myself get distracted, so we locked ourselves in the basement (where our home school room is) and worked hard every week day mornings so we could enjoy the afternoons with both grand-mamans. It worked! We didn’t get behind and still spent lots of wonderful hours enjoying our company to the fullest. We took Thanksgiving week off since we were hosting and it was nice to get to spend some uninterrupted time with them for the last week of their visit. The only thing I wish we could have squeezed in and didn’t in November was the annual talent show our home school group puts on. It just wasn’t meant to be, we couldn’t find the time to do everything... Next year!

And now we are about to embark into December, one of the busiest months of the year for our family... but because of our new year round schedule, we will be taking off several weeks without any  guilt or any lagging behind! It makes this mama ever so happy!!

We are still Loving our curriculum choices...we are finishing certain things by Christmas break and I’ll update on what will be new after the New Year!
